Education for Power: Teaching Skills and Developing Confidence to Win

May 08, 2026
5:30PM - 7:30PM

Yatchak Hall, 633 S. Hawley Rd, Milwaukee 53214

On Friday, May 8th the Milwaukee Area Labor Council is proud to host Todd Dahlstrom, longtime Organizing and Growth Director for the Minnesota AFL-CIO. Todd brings a wealth of organizing knowledge and experience that he will share with us in his presentation "Education for Power: Teaching Skills and Developing Confidence to Win." Todd has done an incredible job building coalitions within labor in order to exert greater power to win robust contracts as well as uniting labor to the current anti-ICE coalition in the Twin Cities in their stand against fascist state repression of immigrant workers. This coalition was key in organizing the "ICE out of Minnesota: Day of Truth and Freedom" action and mobilizing the thousands of people who participated.

If you are a union organizer, official, or a rank-and-file member passionate about organizing and utilizing winning strategies and tactics, you don't want to miss this FREE event. If you have any questions or inquiries, please reach out to Andrew Wehrheim at organize@milwaukeelabor.org. Below you will find an event schedule as well as Todd's bio.

Todd's Bio

Todd Dahlstrom is the Organizing and Growth Director with the Minnesota AFL-CIO, a role he has held for the past 11 years.  In his statewide role, he assists Unions with internal and externam strategies to build worker power across multiple sectors in Minnesota. He also helped to launch the Minnesota Training Partnership, the state's first union-centered workforce development organization. Prior to that, he led the effort to organize security officers in the Twin Cities with SEIU Local 26. Through direct action - including two historic strikes - he helped to organize 95% of the private security industry in the metro area.

These days, Todd is providing a strong union voice in spaces where communities are fighting back against authoritarianism. He has been one the leaders of the local No Kings coalition and core team member of the Democracy Defense Table and focuses on mass mobilization and protest security and safety for those events. You'll find Todd wherever people are taking to the streets.

Todd is also married to Debbie Prokopf, Executive Officer of the Minnesota Newspaper Guild. Outside of building worker power, Todd is also a dad to his loyal canine companion Margo and enjoys spending time at their cabin in Northern Wisconsin.
