Labor Spotlight- Decorah Gordon
Decorah is on the Executive Board for IBEW Local 2150 and is the Chair (or chief steward) for WE Energies downtown members. She has been employed at WE Energies in legal services as the claims clerk for 4 companies under the recently merged WEC Energy Group umbrella. She is the Vice President for the Milwaukee Chapter of the A. Philip Randolph Institute and sits on the Milwaukee Area Labor Council Executive Board. She is the new Chair of the MALC Civil Rights Committee.
Volunteering and serving the community has always been a priority for Decorah. Since the beginning of COVID the need has become even more vital. Over the past year and a half she has made meals from her home to feed 80 men at Guest House Milwaukee, conducted zoom mock interviews for PEARLS for Teen Girls, organized community clean ups, held a food drive collecting over 700 canned goods, clothes and shoes for Guest House Milwaukee. In 2021, Decorah was the recipient of the Werner G. Shaefer Award for Community Service.
Decorah has also done Get Out The Vote work with her local, organized a march in support of the John Lewis Act along with the Richard J Trumka Pro Act, and so much more.
With so much more to do as we continue to push our way into new territories – Decorah plans on continuing to be in the community either educating, feeding and/or cleaning. Making a difference.
