As always, we are proud to highlight the strong history of partnership between the AFL-CIO and United Way, one that goes back more than 75 years!
2020 has been a year unlike any other. The Labor Movement and United Way have both pivoted at a moment’s notice to tackle new issues in the community impacted by COVID-19.
Since we can’t be together in person for our annual breakfast, we will kick off the United Way Campaign virtually- and highlight that partnership along with the generosity of our local unions in terms of both volunteering and donating.
As close partners with the United Way Worldwide through the AFL-CIO and with the United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha County, the Labor Community Campaign is our opportunity as labor members to make a big difference in the community.
The Labor Kick-Off event for the campaign each September provides labor’s most distinguished community service award to a union member or group providing distinguished service.
Named in honor of an active labor and United Way leader, the Werner J. Schaefer Community Service Award is chosen by a local committee formed by AFL-CIO Community Services.
