The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union was founded in 1978 by the merger between 2 powerful unions, the Retail Clerks International Union and the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen of North America. Similarly, UFCW Local 1473 was formed by a merger between Local 1444 (Retail Clerks) and 73A (Meat Cutters) in the early 2000s.
We are proud of the rich history of leadership our union and its predecessors have within the labor movement. Our local union in particular is a trend-setting local within the UFCW organization, and we are consistently a leading local that other locals strive to emulate due to our accomplishments. We have leading wages and strong language and protections for our membership in our union contracts. We have negotiated some of the best contracts in the country within our industries. We are leaders in executing programs such as our U.S. citizenship workshops, education, language courses, and utilizing cutting edge technology to serve our members in the field, and training other union locals to do the same. Everyone in UFCW 1473, from our pension specialists and office professionals, to the reps and our leadership at the top, all play a vital role in serving our members and making UFCW 1473 a successful organization.
Come back on Wednesday to learn about the membership of UFCW 1473.
