We represent workers in factories that produce autos, auto parts, beer, coffee, rum, padlocks, tractors, seeding units, harvesting equipment, construction equipment, seating for semis, semis, defense products, nurses, higher education, office workers and some other sectors I may have missed.
We have members working regular shifts and some overtime in factories during a pandemic. We have been working on workplace safety issues to try to keep our members safe as they continue to make profits for our employers.
While our members are impacted by a wide range of issues, currently all the focus lately has been on Covid and its effect on our worksites and communities.
Even though we’re the United Auto Workers, the most common misconception we face is that our membership only builds cars. In fact, Andrew in the picture to the left is the president of UAW Local 9 that brews Miller Beer.
